Sarria to Portomarin
Day 5 - Wednesday, April 15 - 33545 steps
I slept in today to 7:30!
Breakfast was the pastiche I had bought yesterday.
After a bit of a walk out of town, we came across a witch on the side of the trail. It was a woman dressed up to represent the traditional spirits who protected the travellers on the Camino.
And shortly after that I came across a shop on the side of the road selling touristy trinkets. The guy working there asked me where I was from as I went by and I said Canada. And he started talking to me in French! So I went in. He told me I need a couple of pins to go with my wooden shell. I thought he was offering them to me for free, like the woman in O Cebrerion did. But then he told me "1.5 euros each please". Oh well, they were already pinned on my backpack. What a salesman!
There were a surprising number of tables set up along the trail with people selling things. But Sarria is a major starting point for lots of people, so the traffic was more than usual on the trail.
My blisters were bugging me again today and I stopped for a rest at Mirador da Brea.
A short while later I met a Dutch woman named Esther. We walked together the rest of the way to Portomarin. It was a suprisingly short walk today and we arrived somewhere around 2:00pm!
