Day 9 - O Pendrouzo to Santiago

O Pendrouzo to Santiago

Day 9 - Sunday, April 19 - 36682 steps

This was my last day of walking!
I woke up early at 6:00 and was on the road by 6:30
I stopped right away at a cafe next to the albergue called Che Cafe

As I was walking, and the day started to warm up, I took my fleece off.
I had a method of doing it where I took one arm out of my pack, then took that arm out of the fleece, then put the arm back in my pack and did the same with the other arm.  While doing this, my wooden shell I was wearing around my neck, must have got caught and came off.  It was only a while later that I noticed it was missing.

I stopped for coffee at Restaurante El Calzada

And shortly after entered the outskirts of Santiago.

It's the largest city I've gone through yet and it took a while to reach the cathedral.

Along the way, I met a couple of ladies from France.  Not pilgrims, just tourists, taking photos of things.

Once I got to the cathedral, I had to ask a few times to find the office where they issued the Compastela.  For future reference, it's door #33.  One of the women working at the counter was Canadian and she made a point of coming over to congratulate me when she heard I was Canadian too.

I found an albergue outside of the old city of Santiago - about a 20 minute walk.  It was in an old monestary and was really nice.  They didn't offer pilgrim rates because at this point, the pilgrimage is over.

I had a nap and then looked for a place for dinner.  There was a bar very close by, but when I got there at 4:30, they said the kitchen had closed at 4:00 and wouldn't open again until 8:00!!

So I walked 20 minutes back into the old part of Santiago, where all the tourists are.  Which means the restaurants are open all the time, to accommodate people's different tastes.

I had dinner at Casa Camillo.  It was really good, but super salty.  I walked back and then had about 2 litres of water before bed!
